Commission seeks comments on horse racing rules

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) – The Wyoming Pari-Mutuel Commission is

taking public comments on proposed rules on live horse racing until

Feb. 3.

The rules would require track owners to hold 16 days of horse

racing a year before they could get a permit for simulcast races

and off-track betting.

Commission executive director Charles Moore says simulcasting

was intended only to assist live horse racing.

The Casper Star-Tribune reports that Wyoming Downs, the state’s

only operating horse track, held no live races in 2010 but has

applied for 10 days in 2011.

Moore said the 16 days of live racing in the proposed rules is a

“benchmark” that the commission could modify if an applicant has

good cause.
