Tahnee Robinson of Fort Washakie drafted

(FORT WASHAKIE)   23 Year old Tahnee Robinson of Fort Washakie was drafted into the WNBA this week.

Robinson is a guard with Nevada and was the 31st overall pick in the WNBA draft on Monday. She was selected by the Phoenix Mercury and immediately traded to the Connecticut Sun for a third-round pick next year.

Robinson is the first women’s basketball player from Nevada to be selected in the WNBA draft. There were three rounds of the draft on Monday.

She hired an agent while at the NCAA Women’s Final Four last week in Indianapolis. She also has signed a contract with Nike and will go to Oregon later this week to work out her obligations with the athletic apparel giant.

Robinson said she has dreamed of playing in the WNBA since she was a little girl.

Robinson is the first full-blooded Native American player drafted by the WNBA. She is descended from several tribes, her mother is Pawnee and Eastern Shoshone and her father is Northern Cheyenne and Sioux. Her family still lives on the Wind River Reservation in Fort Washakie where she grew up.
