(LANDER, Wyo.) Wyoming Governor Matt Mead announced on Friday that his selection as the second member of the Wyoming One Shot Antelope Team is former Vice President Dick Cheney. Mead made the announcement during an interview on KOVE’s “Coffee Time” show. This will be the first time for Cheney, a Wyoming native and life-long hunter, to participate as a team member in the Lander hunt that is scheduled for September 21st (2013).
The Past Shooters Club has not yet named their choice as the third hunter for the Wyoming team, and that announcement is normally made in August.
Seven other teams have had their challenges accepted for this year’s hunt, including the co-host Colorado team headed by Governor John Hickenlooper, a Western Sportsman’s team, Outdoor Writers team, Boone and Crocket team, the “One and Done” team, a Remington Firearms team, and the One Shot will also feature a Wounded Warriors team for the second year in a row.
The annual One Shot “Foo foo Rah” is taking place this weekend in Lander and at the Past Shooter’s annual meeting Friday morning the Board pledged $125,000 to the new Lander Community Center. The donation will give the group naming rights for the bar area. Other organizations have donated money for naming rights for other rooms within the new facility.
The City of Lander will learn on June 20th if the State of Wyoming will provide grant money for the project. The City has applied for $2.4 million in grants from the State.
