(RIVERTON, Wyo.) Two Riverton men are in serious trouble after allegedly stealing a car after they wrecked the one they were driving.
Undersheriff Ryan Lee with the Fremont County Sheriff’s Department said it all started Thursday morning when a 2001 PT Cruiser crashed on Delfelder Road and Haymaker Road near Riverton. The driver lost control and struck a bridge girder flipping the car end over end and landing on the roof. The two occupants fled the area and ran to several residences attempting to coax the homeowners for a ride into town, however when each homeowner said they were calling the sheriff’s department, the men fled the area.
When deputies contacted the owner of the PT Cruiser, she realized it had been stolen. While a deputy responded to her residence on Riverview road, he came across a wrecked 1994 Toyota Corolla that was blocking the northbound lane of the roadway near her residence. An investigation regarding that vehicle revealed that it had run off the road and collided with a fence, eventually becoming disabled.
Meanwhile back on Delfelder road, deputies were eventually able to find and detain 20 year old Billy Napier from Riverton. He admitted to being in the PT Cruiser when it crashed. He was arrested for DWUI. A resident along Young Road reported that a man was passed out on her porch, with no shoes on and had bloody feet. The man awoke while the woman was calling the Sheriff’s Office. By the time deputies arrived he had fled the area.
Lee said they are quite certain who the second suspect is, and more charges are pending for both suspects after their investigation is completed.
